The 1916 Troll Falls Expedition

Colonel Reginald Reinholt suggested one last expedition of the season, based on the possibility he may be stationed elsewhere in the near future, so Capt. Sable suggested visiting the nearish, but unexplored (by Europeans) Troll Falls – a series of three beautiful waterfalls in Alberta’s Kananaskis Country, a day’s journey from the Pillar of Darkness Ice Cave.  After some research and a long motor car excursion, the two arrived at the mountain trail head.

Colonel Reinholt promoted Sable to Captain on this expedition. I’m not sure an American officer can do that for a freelance Canadian soldier, but I expect it will go through as a ruse to entice Sable back into the enlisted ranks and campaigns.

Augustus and Reginald arrive at the first falls.

The falls are named after this giant stone Troll Skull.  The Stony Indians’ word for ‘Troll’ is something unpronounceable to our European minds so someone just named the skull a ‘Troll’ skull.  It may be a giant Wendigo or perhaps a local spirit.  Perhaps we should learn what it really is another day.

Col. Reinholt sits within the skull to provide scale and Cap. Sable approaches with the first falls in the background.

Some time later, Reginald spies the second falls and investigates.

“It’s water alright.”, the Colonel pronounced.  Sable concurred.

Dangerously taking in the view at the top of the second falls.

Cane knife at the ready in case of danger, Colonel Reinholt ventures behind the third and final falls.

A tense moment atop the third falls!!  Sable examines the slippery spot.

A splendid and successful expedition!

There is a very short film of the expedition here.
